xmas reorganization
How’s this for trivial? I took a bunch of hours to reorganize my little cluster of sites.
I’ve put Morgan’s Office to rest and moved regularly updated course materials to Morgan’s Wiki, and other stuff to mcmorgan.org. In moving, I’ve redefined the purpose of each site. Morgan’s Wiki becomes a starting point for students aiming at course sites. mcmorgan.org becomes an online home.
Part of the move stems from messing around with Sandvox – just to see what it can do. Impressive for a template app, as I remarked here. I hope Karelia keeps developing it, especially templates and pagelets. Dreamweaver has become far too bloated for everyday use, while apps like Sandvox make updating everyday as easy as hitting the blog.
But mainly I wanted to get my academic work off the campus servers. So I’ve been working on a space for completed / archived papers and presentations, a hub for links to the blog and gallery - an olde tyme, pre-blog, pre-wiki website, c 2001. The design of the hub is driven in part by the capabilities of Sandvox – as usual, a new writing and distribution space becomes a design project – so I’m playing around with pagelets and collections and how to direct readers through them. The Sandvox app takes care of the navigational busywork, just as any shrewdly designed profesional back-end would do. One constraint is working inside the current templates, but that’s always a constraint.
Maybe working with a static site a step back in time. But what’s the point of having a domain if you’re not going to use it?
