Hi Morgan,

Thanks for your posts and ideas on the #OERu eduMOOC study group.

Quick reflection -- from the perspective of the OER Foundation, the choice of "study" group was intentional. We are serious about implementation of the OER university and are moving forward with the anchor partners. So for us - -this is a real-life implementation study.

That said -- everyone with an interest in this area is free to join us :-)

Jason -

I'm hopeful and positive, especially since the updates. And I admire and even envy the organizers: I wouldn't have the energy to manage a 1500-strong MOOC, much less the tech support, but it would be nice to try it. I'm more apprehensive of the expectations of the participants. A lot of participants in other MOOCs I've been on register thinking there will be directed exercises and tasks, traditional lectures and readings. They tend to expect to play a largely passive role. But MOOCs demand more interaction, motivation, and self-guided direction than a casual encounter - that's their strength, and that's what takes a lot of energy and time. Of course, participants can lurk or engage in the course to whatever level they wish, but, again, many I've seen don't quite get the idea that the degree of success is their own.

My concern would be that if it this MOOC doesn't meet the implicit expectations of the 1500 that MOOCs in general could get some bad press.

But, even so, I'm hopeful.

I enjoyed reading your initial impressions of #EDUMOOC. I suspect that this MOOC will evolve, given the latest details updated this morning on the MOOC site at http://j.mp/edumooc Like all MOOCs, it's as much the responsibility of the participants as the organizers for it to be a success.

Hello Jaap -

I've used an iphone app to shoot texts, too. A lot of the work I have my students produce is online already, but some of the multi-modal stuff, or texts in alternative media such as crayon, I shoot, both for the record and for use in class. It would work to distribute the images via DE, too.

Ha Morgan,

I can add a use for pictures, when taking pictures, I do take pictures of texts and surroundings with the real intended picture. In that way i always can find back where and with who did i make the picture. Special on congresses and seminars it is handy to be very redundant.

In expositions etc I take pictures of texts.
And as the pictures are really good I use the apparatus as a copy machine to copy texts, it has a special function for that. good sharp copies of text, very handy.
regards Jaap

Thanks for looking in, Inge. Blackboard snaps are good, but it's the other uses I'm pushing towards: gathering and archiving sources for later use, geo-blogging physical spaces (as in a virtual walking tour of a city or landscape) ... using mobile computing to record and produce stuff as well as access it.

MobiMOOC's great. Glad to be a part of it.
